UK— Aryzta, an Irish-Swiss baked foods group, is in the final stages of completing the installation of a new speciality bread manufacturing plant at its Grange Castle bakery in Dublin.
The investment which includes a significant expansion of its state-of-the-art live sourdough starter plant will double the bakery’s production capacity for sourdough and speciality breads.
With the pandemic, the demand for sourdough bread reached new highs with consumers seeking healthier diets and the boom of home baking.
Demand has been growing steadily since and innovation will be a key driver in satisfying these demands. The increased capacity will enable Aryzta to keep pace.
This expansion will also allow for the development of exciting new products to meet the ever more complex tastes of Irish and UK consumers.
“This expansion is an important step on the Aryzta journey to premiumise our bread range,” said Anthony Proctor, Aryzta Ireland & UK managing director. “The extra capacity will enable us to maximise consumer demand for breads with high nutritional value, fibre, seeds, grains and of course sourdough.”
The speciality breads produced at the Grange Castle site are made using a perpetual live starter which has 30 years of heritage in the business, Aryzta said. The starter is used and regenerated daily to create the firm’s premium sourdough breads.
The expansion plans for Aryzta come after the initial 2020 investment in French bread manufacturing in Dublin. Following on the company’s “next-generation stress-free French bread” strategic plan.
Earlier this year, the baking company also doubled the capacity of its Malaysian bread plant. In South East Asia, Aryzta expects a 7% to 8% CAGR in the bakery demand. Using its Malaysia plant as a base to expand and export to other Asian markets.
Aryzta Ireland is part of Aryzta Europe which operates 19 bakeries across the region with a focus on frozen baked goods for the retail and foodservice sectors. In Ireland it operates the Cuisine de France brand – an in-store bakery brand which was first rolled out 32 years ago and is now available in over 550 stores across the country.
